Alcohols: can be produced by a direct conversion of synthesis gas into a mixture of alcohols which can be sold in the following formats:
Methanol (wood alcohol) has a molecular formula of CH3OH. It is commonly used as an additive in making other chemicals. About 40% of methanol is converted to formaldehyde, and from there into products such as plastics, plywood and paints. Another usage is in the transesterfication of vegetable oils into biodiesel.
Ethanol (C2H6O) is an alcohol that can be applicable for many uses including automotive fuel additives. It has traditionally been produced through fermentation.
