Hydrocarbon Fuels and Industrial Chemicals
Hydrocarbons can be produced through several chemical reaction routes which will produce either syndiesel or syngasoline, depending on the chemical reaction route chosen.

These fuels are higher in quality then their petroleum based counter parts. Because of coming through a synthetic route, their qualities are more consistent and pure; especially in the case of diesel fuel.

Syn-diesel for the most part, has the same chemical make up as petroleum based diesel; except that it burns a whole lot differently. It has 0 sulfur, 0 aromatics, and is biodegradable.

The particulate matter is all but non-existent; meaning that when a diesel truck starts up on a cold day, there would not be a cloud of smoke billowing out. A link is provided to a fact sheet about Fischer Tropsch conversion put out by the California Energy Commission: www.energy.ca.gov/afvs/synthetic_diesel.html

Syn-gasoline is a low octane fuel. It is used as a blending agent with higher octane fuels or ethanol.

Industrial Chemicals can be produced through either Fischer Tropsch reactions or BioCat™ fermentation. These chemicals include:

Acetic acid (CH3OOH), also known as ethanoic acid, is an organic compound that is best recognized for giving vinegar its’ sour taste and pungent smell. It is mainly used however in the production of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) and for solvents in inks and paints.

Acetone (CH3OCH3) is used to make plastics, fibers, drugs, and other chemicals. Acetone is miscible with water, ethanol, ether, etc., and itself serves as an important solvent.

Naptha (C9H12) is used primarily as a feedstock for producing a high octane gasoline component (via the catalytic reforming process). It is also used in the petrochemical industry for producing olefins in steam crackers and in the chemical industry for solvent (cleaning) applications
